Morrison & Partee - Lima, Cusco, Tambopata & Zafiro Amazon Cruise Testimonial

Morrison & Partee - Lima, Cusco, Tambopata & Zafiro Amazon Cruise Testimonial

Elaine from Los Altos Hills, CA originally planned a solo Galapagos & Peru trip for March 2022, but had to postpone on medical grounds. She was finally able to make the trip, in the company of Morriss, in February 2024

Their itinerary included Lima, Cusco and - quite unusually - time at both an Amazon lodge in Southern Peru and on an Amazon cruise in Northern Peru.

Their original visit to Machu Picchu was cancelled, but luckily they had extra time in their itinerary and were able to rearrange.

Here are her thoughts on the experience.

Urquhart x 2 Testimonial - Trujillo, Chiclayo & Chachapoyas

Urquhart x 2 Testimonial - Trujillo, Chiclayo & Chachapoyas

In November, 2023, PeruNorth received the following enquiry from Thomas, in Portland, Maine: “I have been interested in the Moche/Chimu ever since reading an article in The New Scientist about their engineers who were priests because they knew how to bring the water to the desert (as I remember). My wife and I are interested in finding out more about your coastal civilization itineraries and how they work.”

Three friends from Texas - father and son Joe and Matt Barth along with Virgil Burkhardt - ‘did the double’ in the Peruvian Amazon near Iquitos in September 2022 ie a lodge stay followed by a river cruise.

The itinerary was very well designed and we had a fabulous time. We were blown away by Patagonia and want to return there.

Overall summary – wonderful holiday. 10 out of 10! Thank you!

Ceviche in Peru

Ceviche in Peru

While ceviche can be found throughout Latin America, from Mexico to Chile, and especially along its Pacific coastline, it has arguably found its finest expression in Peru, where it is the iconic national dish – uncooked, marinated fish served with camote (sweet potato) and choclo (corn on the cob).

Pisco Sour Day

Pisco Sour Day

In 2003, Peru created El Dia Nacional del Pisco Sour (National Pisco Sour Day), an annual public holiday on the first Saturday of February, celebrating the tangy, sweet - and undeniably intoxicating - Peruvian cocktail, which is both delicious and addictive!

This concoction of Pisco, lemon juice, egg white and sugar syrup liquidized, and served with a dash of Angostura bitters, has a long history dating back to the arrival of the Spanish in the Americas.

Walking Tour of Central Lima

Walking Tour of Central Lima

Despite living in Lima, it is seldom that I actually go to the centre. Over the last 30 years, the economic, cultural and tourist focus has largely shifted to the coastal districts of San Isidro, Barranco and Miraflores, and there are few practical reasons to visit.

So the visit of my photographer friend, James Brunker, offered a great excuse to explore once again, in the company of someone with a keen eye for the details, contrasts and absurdities that central Lima offers in abundance.
