Read the impressions of a young Colorado couple, who visited Treehouse Lodge, in the Amazonian department of Loreto, for five days, as part of their honeymoon:
How was the accommodation?
We loved the Treehouse Lodge. Definitely the most unique place I've ever stayed! And we loved the main lodge/bar area where we had our meals.
Who was/were your guide(s)? How did they perform?
Armado was our guide, Alex was our Boat driver. They were both amazing and very informative!
Which was your favourite dish / drink? Did you lose or gain weight over the course of the holiday!?
I really liked the breakfasts at Treehouse Lodge - the eggs/omelets were great! Also loved the Pina Coladas, especially after a long day of exploring the Amazon! My weight didn't change.
What forms of transport did you use? Pros/cons?
Plane and van and boat. It was the required transportation to get to the Treehouse Lodge - nothing I can think of in terms of pros/cons.
Did your itinerary involve any hiking? How would you rate it in terms of difficulty?
The hiking was easy-level in the Amazon. However, we did have to wear mud boots and go through muddy areas, so that might make it medium-level for some folks.
We did also do the 4-day Inca Trail Trek via Cusco prior to going to Iquitos, that was much more difficult :)
What was the most pointless item in your luggage!?
Layers of clothing - they were not needed in the Amazon, it stayed consistently warm/humid!
What was/were your favourite natural encounter?
We really liked seeing the pink dolphins in the Amazon. The spiders (tarantulas, wolf spiders) were also very amazing to see - so big!
Did you suffer any insect bites? Other physical discomforts?
Only a few mosquito bites - I wore long sleeves/pants and wore bug spray so was mostly protected!
Did you have much interaction with locals? Where and how did this occur?
Not really in Iquitos/the Amazon other than with our guides and the staff at Treehouse Lodge. We did stop by a village called San Jose to see water lilies [Victoria Regia] in a pond there, but didn't interact with anyone directly.
Did you feel your money was going to local businesses and people?
Yes since our guides and the staff at Treehouse Lodge were all from the surrounding area
Were you given any information regarding sustainability during the course of your trip?
Yes and we were guided to use reusable water bottles and provided water to refill it with
Did you notice any areas where environmental practices could be improved?
Not that I can think of.
