Feedback from thirty-something Belgian couple, Thomas van de Putte & Sofie Dielema, on their overland Northern Peru trip:
We booked our visit in July 2019 to Cajamarca and Chachapoyas with PeruNorth. We flew from Lima to Cajamarca where we were picked up to go to our hotel. The hotel [Costa del Sol Cajamarca] met our expectations. We visited Cajarmarca that day on our own.
The next morning we were picked up and we drove with the jeep to Chachapoyas. The route was very beautiful. Our driver spoke only spanish (we speak limited spanish), but tried to inform us sufficiently on the way or during stops.
The hotel in Chachapoyas [Casona Monsante] met our expectations, but the breakfast was not that extensive.
The trips in Chachapoyas were organized with an organization located in the street of our hotel, which was very practical. We received info on arrival at our hotel.
The next day we visited the Gocta Falls. Nice walk and beautiful scenery. Lunch was included.
The following day we visited Kuelap with an english speaking guide. Very successful trip, lunch included. Rather touristy (waiting in line at the telepherique) but nice site.
On our last day we visited Revash & the museum of Leymebamba. Nice trip (lunch included) but considering it was a spanish guide not everything was so clear for us. We also stopped by a cafe with a lot of hummingbirds [Kentitambo].
We were dropped off in Leymebamba where we had to wait for the night bus to Cajamarca. The bus [Turismo Virgen del Carmen] was not luxurious (not comparable with Cruz del Sur), but we safely arrived at our destination.
We arrived at the hotel [Costa del Sol Cajamarca, again] in the early morning and had to pay an extra for an early check in. We had nothing planned and were unfortunately too late for a trip to Cumbemayo. Our next plan was a bike ride, but the bike shop was gone.
After all, we went to visit a cheese factory, a flower garden and the Ventanillas de Otuzco. We were sorry that we had not planned this day in advance.
Next day, we flew to Cuzco.
We liked the alternation between culture and nature, have always eaten well, the organization was fine and the guides pleasant.
