NB. PLEASE CHECK VISA REQUIREMENTS
Day 1: Rio de Janeiro (B)
On arrival in Rio de Janeiro, you are met and transferred to the hotel by a driver-guide.
Overnight at Selected Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 2: Rio de Janeiro: Sugar Loaf & City Tour; Samba Show Optional (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, we take you on a half day tour in a small group to one of Rio's world-famous highlights: Sugar Loaf Mountain.
We drive through downtown Rio, with its fine Colonial-style Portuguese buildings, to the cable car at Praia Vermelha (Red Beach).
The ride to the top of Sugar Loaf Mountain gives another wonderful view of the city nestling between the mountains and the sea, and the sight of the sun going down over Copacabana beach is magical.
For those wishing to sample some of Rio's famous nightlife and dance culture, there is the option - at additional cost - of going to a Samba Show at the famous Ginga Tropical theatre.
As well as the samba, which is synonymous with Brazilian Carnaval, a number of other musical styles are showcased, such as lambada, forro, and bossa nova, along with their accompanying moves.
Overnight at Selected Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 3: Rio de Janeiro: Free Day (B)
Today is at leisure, in order to explore the city or enjoy its iconic beaches.
For those wanting a more structured approach, there are a couple of excellent optional tours available:
A half-day tour along the Atlantic coast to Barra da Tijuca, home to Rio's longest beach (18 km / 11 miles), followed by a trip to the Olympic Park, which was the centrepiece of the 2016 Rio Olympics.
A half-day visit to the iconic Christ Statue on Corcovado Mountain, taking the funicular train through the rain forest of Tijuca National Park to the top of the 710 m (2,329 ft) granite peak, with its spectacular views of Rio and the surrounding countryside.
Overnight at Selected Hotel in Rio de Janeiro.
Day 4: Rio de Janeiro - Foz do Iguaçu (B)
Upon arrival at Foz do Iguassu airport, you will be welcomed by an English-speaking driver-guide and transferred to your hotel.
After checking in, we take you on a half-day visit of the Brazilian side of the Falls, in a small group.
The area is protected by the Iguaçu National Park, which consists of rainforest, rich in flora and fauna ... and of course, Iguassu Falls.
At 185,262 hectares (457,794 acres), it is one of the largest forest reserves in South America and was declared a World Heritage Site in 1986.
Once inside the park, we will take a lift down to the base of the waterfalls at river level.
From a 1,000 m (3,281 ft) long footbridge, we can admire the majestic Falls or go up a lift to the Salto Floreano viewpoint.
At the end of the tour, you have the option - at additional cost - of visiting Bird Park, an ecological sanctuary containing some 150 species of bird, mainly Brazilian, but also from Australia, Africa and Asia represented. There is also a butterfly farm and reptile house.
Overnight at Selected Hotel in Foz do Iguassu – on the Brazilian side of the border.
Day 5: Iguazu Falls: Argentinian side (B)
After breakfast at the hotel, we take you on a half-day visit of the Argentinean side of Iguazu Falls, in a small group.
After crossing the border into Argentina, we enter Iguazu National Park, which covers a total area of 55,500 hectares (137,143 acres).
It bears the name of the river which acts as its northern border, and means "great waters" in the Guaraní language.
Surrounded by a lush, subtropical Atlantic rainforest, we find the majestic Iguazu Waterfall. Consisting of some 275 cataracts, and with the sixth-highest average annual flow of any waterfall in the world, it is truly spectacular.
Using the network of paths and footbridges, we visit the heart of the waterfalls, appreciating them from different angles.
On the lower circuit, the wet mist from the waterfall keeps us cool.
The highlight of the upper circuit is the balcony overlooking La Garganta del Diablo (The Devil's Throat), an 80m (262 ft) fall.
While on the Argentinian side of Iguazu Falls, you can take the exciting Big Adventure Tour (additional cost), which uses speedboats to see some of the better-known waterfalls from a different perspective ... and appreciate their sheer power.
NB. Be prepared to get wet!
Overnight at Selected Hotel in Foz do Iguassu.
Day 6: Foz do Iguaçu: Airport Transfer (B)
Breakfast is provided at the hotel.
At the appropriate time, we transfer you to Foz do Iguaçu Airport for your onward flight.
You may wish to continue exploring Brazil's many other highlight, such as the Afro-Brazilian city of Salvador de Bahia (see separate itinerary).
Or you can take advantage of the direct flight from Iguassu to Lima, in order to enjoy Peru's many delights.
