Where To Stay In Amazonas

The accommodation in the Department of Amazonas largely reflects the spectacular archaeological and natural environment in which it is located.

From lodges designed for viewing hummingbirds, such as the rare and beautiful Marvellous Spatuletail, in the shadow of Kuelap Fortress; to one overlooking Gocta Falls; to a guesthouse in the grounds of a Mummy Museum, the properties are idiosyncratic and exciting

Gocta Lodge, Cocachimba

  • Spectacularly-located lodge in striking distance of Gocta Falls.

Gocta Lodge was the most spectacular [accommodation] with the falls and wide lawns and flowers.

Hacienda Achamaqui, Chachapoyas

  • Converted ranch in lovely Utcubamba River valley.

Casa Mallqui, Leymebamba

Gocta Natura, Cocachimba

Kentitambo, Leymebamba

  • Homely, intimate lodge in beautiful gardens.

Next was the town of Leymebamba where we had booked 2 nights at the Kentitambo Inn. Also called the Hummingbird Inn, it was a delightful place with beautiful rooms and great food.

Although we didn’t see as many hummingbirds as we had anticipated, we really enjoyed the stay and the visit to the nearby museum to see mummies and artifacts that had been gathered from nearby tombs.

La Xalca, Chachapoyas

  • A purpose-built, Colonial-style hotel.

  • Centrally-located in Chachapoyas.

La Xalca Hotel in Chachapoyas was lovely.
